Oh my gosh, that flag is terrific. I see lots of UW initials and such in flowers here but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the flag. I’m kind of surprised it is not done more often. The picnic photo is charming too, but all I can think of is how much cooler we can all dress today.
There’s one here from 1900 (from the Library of Congress). I think it’s one half of the display; there should be another flag on the other side of the sidewalk.
The one here is nice because it’s not too big and overdone. Also the ground is a bit wavy where you would expect a flag to be.
I know what you mean about those dresses at that picnic. No wonder many women of that time carried smelling salts.
