“Four (vier) children holding hands in front of a wooden fence,” Indonesia, ca. 1924, attributed to Klaas Kleiterp, via Rijks Museum of Amsterdam.
This image is from a file of bookmarked photos I have labeled “children made to pose in gardens.” I really like the large freeform lattice arbor around them.
Cindy, photos of these four children and the three you show in your next post are quite wonderful. Even better is the name you used to file them: children made to pose in gardens. “made to” are the crucial words — I bet many of your readers can remember the time it applied to them personally. I know I can.
I think every family has stacks of such pictures — the grown kids are (mostly) happy now that they were “made to pose” — their descendants will be too.
