Easy: purple pansies from the Degerloch farmer’s market, little purple pot.

My tantalized spirit
Here blandly reposes,
Forgetting, or never
Regretting, its roses—
Its old agitations
Of myrtles and roses:For now, while so quietly
Lying, it fancies
A holier odor
About it, of pansies—
A rosemary odor,
Commingled with pansies—
With rue and the beautiful
Puritan pansies.— Edgar Allen Poe, from “For Annie“
I adore pansies so this was a treat…and am glad I did not plant any early as now we have freezing, frigid temps and 6 inches of snow on my flowers int he garden.
Ouch! Sorry about that. I just found this great poem about marriage that has the line: “. . . because pansies are hardy despite the name.” So maybe they would be OK. (http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/246284)
I have never come across that poem by Edgar Allen Poe before – thanks for bringing it to my attention. And your pansies are such a pretty colour – I am not fond of the bright coloured ones with big blotches but these are delightful – thanks for sharing
Thanks for hosting this meme!
Pansies were my first love in the world of flowers. Seeing them is always a joy!
What a beautiful color of pansies! Thanks for sharing the poem too.
