First Lady Lou Hoover added May pole and folk dancing to the annual event — but only briefly. Apparently, the Depression was bad enough on its own.

It looks like the ribbons aren’t exactly winding around the pole as they should, though. Ha!
I think you’re right. They’re weaving off to one side of the pole. They seem to be going at it with a lot of energy though.
