The hotel opened in 1890 and featured Egypt’s first swimming pool. Famous guests have included British and Egyptian royalty, Winston Churchill, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, and Charlie Chaplin.

Her companion with the cigarette looks annoyed. Maybe he was so boring that even a cuppa could not keep her awake!
If they were photographed in these positions today, we would say he was annoyed because she was checking her text messages.
