It’s a really nice place to relax for a few days — a very attractive town and drop-dead gorgeous beach. It was fun to wander around the tidal pools (“marine garden”) at the base of Haystack Rock at low tide. We saw one starfish — which was lucky, because I read this morning that a disease may have killed off as many as 90% in the area in the last 15 months.
Two travel tips: I can recommend the Cannon Beach Hotel, which is not far from Haystack Rock. Also, we took a bus from Portland (Amtrack Station) to Cannon Beach (arrives right across the street from the hotel). It can be booked through Amtrack and is much cheaper than a rental car.
Have you left Rwanda? I shall be sad if you have… I’ve enjoyed the posts showing parts of the country and your garden there. But wherever you end up living, I know your posts will continue to be enjoyable and informative.
We have not left for good yet — but pretty soon. . .
