In a vase on Monday: pink in purple

Today, I combined pink calla lilies and small dark pink and yellow mums from the grocery store with yellow shrubby cinquefoil from the yard.


I had meant to take advantage of the lilies’ long stems, but they went mushy before I could make the arrangement, so I ended up with several short pieces.


The little pitcher is from Saturday’s flea market. It has a name very lightly impressed on the bottom, which I think is Schramberg, an old pottery maker from the Baden-Württemberg state of Germany. The mark would put this piece in the mid-1800s. I really liked the purple color.


I also made an arrangement (adding a few sprigs of pink spirea) in another purple transfer ware bowl that I’ve had for several years.

Supermarket tulips, sweet woodruff, and some other little weed wildflower from behind our fence, as well as golden spirea leaves from the flower bed.

I like red and pink together, but I find dark red so difficult to photograph. It just swallows all the light.

I put the yellow arrangement on the coffee table.

That orange rose is the only one that’s fragrant.

Light-catcher

Right now — at midmorning in Stuttgart — it’s 59°F.  Our high today is predicted to be only 69°,with all-day clouds and intermittent rain.

It’s been this way since last week, and it looks like summer will not return until next Wednesday.

But yesterday about 5:30 p.m., I caught a few minutes of sun shining through my little arrangement of miniature roses, spirea, and wild strawberries.

An hour later, it was raining.

Today is Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day, hosted by Carol at May Dreams Gardens. I don’t have a lot of flowers, but I am enjoying some orange hawkweed, which I hope will pop up in more places in the long grass this summer and next year.
