First steps in the new year

Pattern in brick on a wide lawn.

After a good long think, I’m actively working on a design for our garden here in Kigali, and I’m writing/assembling pictures for some long posts about the process. In the meantime, I thought I would share a few photos that have inspired me lately and that I’ve saved on my Pinterest page.

I was lured into Pinterest by Green Theatre, who offered to invite her readers to join the online bulletin board because she found it so useful and fun. And, to be honest, she did warn that it was a bit habit-forming (actually “very, very” were the words she used).  No kidding!  However, after about 6 months, it’s interesting to look back and see what kinds of patterns are developing on my “Garden inspirations” board.

The photo above is from  Fennel and Fern’s ”Real gardens” section*, which is always interesting. I love the simplicity of this labyrinth by Adrian Fisher at Parham House and Gardens in England. It appears to me both whimsical and profound. (Click on the photo to link to the F&F post.)

*My “oasis” garden in Niger was featured here in August.
